About Me

Hey there! 👋

I'm Nafis — a Research Associate by day, data enthusiast by night, and someone who gets genuinely excited about spotting patterns, automating tedious tasks, and occasionally going down rabbit holes about economic theories that most people find... well, let's just say "niche."

What Gets Me Out of Bed

Beyond my day job, I'm fascinated by markets and economic theories. I've been following global markets since 2018 (wow, almost 8 years have passed by!), and I even shared some research on Reddit back in the day — managed to rank 6th globally among finfluencers (competing against actual research firms and hedge funds!). Called the GameStop situation early, analyzed M&A activities... you know, the fun stuff.

Why This Website Exists

Honestly? I wanted a place to share ideas without the constraints of traditional formats and to intergate all my writing in one place if and when I decide to delete any or all social media accounts.

This is a digital garden where I can explore topics I'm passionate about — whether that's dissecting Modern Monetary Theory, visualizing exchange rate trends with interactive charts, or writing about why government debt isn't the boogeyman everyone makes it out to be.

This site is part experiment, part portfolio, and fully automated. Some of the charts you see pull live data through Python scripts. The multi-language support (বাংলা and اردو alongside English) reflects my belief that economic literacy shouldn't be locked behind language barriers.

When I'm Not Crunching Numbers

You'll find me:

  • Volunteering: I've been involved in fund collection for charities, organizing donation drives for flood relief and other causes
  • Tinkering with code: Building dashboards, automating workflows, or trying out new data visualization libraries
  • Following global markets: Keeping tabs on everything from emerging market currencies to tech sector earnings

The Tech Behind This Site

For the nerds out there (I say that with love), here's what powers this website:

  • Astro: The web framework for building content-driven websites. It allows me to ship zero JavaScript by default while using React components where needed.
  • Tailwind CSS & Shadcn UI: For that premium, responsive, and dark-themed aesthetic.
  • Python: The backbone of all data processing — from web scraping exchange rates to processing economic datasets (using libraries like pandas, playwright, pdfplumber, etc.)
  • Recharts/Plotly: Interactive visualizations that let you explore the data yourself
  • GitHub Actions: Version control, Automatic Deployment through a cron job (the website and its data updates at 5 am UTC everyday by itself)
  • Cloudflare Pages: CDN for fast delivery of the website and hosting

Everything is automated — data updates, chart generation, and even the deployment pipeline. Because if it can be automated, why do it manually?

Let's Connect

I'm always up for interesting conversations about markets, economics, automation, or really anything. Find me on:

P.S. — If you're wondering about my writing style: I aim for clarity over formality. Economic concepts are complex enough without wrapping them in unnecessary jargon. If something sounds confusing, that's on me, not you.
